my philosophy
My mother is a pianist. Growing up, our house was filled with music; the walls were hung with vintage grayscale photographs, charcoal sketches of nude women on yellowed paper, and massive paintings gifted to us by my mother’s friends. I was surrounded with art. When I was small, I would sit on her leather bench and bat at those ivory keys. I wanted to be like her, to create something beautiful and make people smile.
Food is my music. I believe food should - beyond providing sustenance - bring joy to people. It should be made with artistry and passion, love and tenderness. It should be constantly evolving, bringing new and exciting flavors and experiences. Above all, food is love. It's comfort, it's security, it's joy. It's a way to bring people together. As a culinarian, I have the ability to facilitate those feelings and interactions through my art.
The speed, rhythm and flow of the kitchen calls to me. I've always known that my way of expressing myself is by making art in instinctive, unorthodox ways; and I've found that a high-energy, high-stakes environment is where I truly thrive. I find my creative expression at the intersection of art and food. The kitchen community of creatives and our commitment to beauty - that’s what feeds me.
